かなわぬまでも In any crisis

難局に当たって、かなわぬまでもと試みるのが仏教であり、駄目だと諦めるのは仏教ではない。

In any crisis the Buddhist way to solve the problem is by many attempts, no matter how small the possibilty is to succeed. To give up easily is not the Buddhist way.
